LEGO Ideas platform adjusts terms of use

The terms of use of the LEGO Ideas platform will be adjusted on June 3, 2024. The minimum age for creating or owning a LEGO Ideas profile will be increased from 13 to 16 years old, according to the website. The background to the change is new legislation for the use of social media in various countries. Now LEGO will adjust the age limit accordingly to ensure, the manufacturer says, that LEGO Ideas remains a safe and compliant platform for younger LEGO fans.

EU data protection rules currently require young people to be 16 years old before their data can be processed. However, EU member states may decide to lower this age limit in their own country. For example, in July 2023, France passed a law requiring online social networking providers operating in France to deny access to children under the age of 15 unless expressly authorized by a parent or guardian. In Germany, the minimum age for most social media platforms is 13 years old.

The change will take effect from June 3

The team behind the LEGO Ideas platform only adapts the terms of use to the general EU data protection rules.

So if you are under the age of 16 on June 3, your LEGO Ideas profile will automatically close on June 3. For everyone else, nothing will change. New accounts can only be created if you are at least 16 years old.

LEGO Ideas Platform: that is changing

Due to the age adjustment, posts and comments from users under the age of 16 will be deleted on the effective date. However, this change does not affect the existing mood. All designs and ideas supported by users under the age of 16 will not lose votes.
